Fancy

Saturday night the kids had a babysitter and Brett and I went on a date. We went to Spiaggia, which is a fancy authentic Italian restaurant downtown Chicago. This is one of Brett's customers and that's one of the perks of his job, visiting customers on the company dime. This was part of my dinner, the pasta. I got the "large" pasta in place of a meal. It was delicious. The antipasta I got was baby beets and I have to say I've never had beets before, but they were pretty good. Brett loved them and also loved all of his food. I'm not the most adventurous person when it comes to food, but I was pretty good about trying new things.

The service was amazing and the manager took very good care of us. He sent us complimentary pasta with white truffles. I thought a truffle was a candy, but he explained that white truffles are a tubor found in Italy in certain parts from October-December around Oak trees. People dig them up and sell them for about $3,000/pound! They are shipped to this restaurant within 24-48 hours of being dug up. He shaved some of the truffle onto the pasta for us to try. I felt like I was eating gold! It was good, but it's not something I'll crave, especially at that price. We were telling the manager how good the dessert was and how Cade would LOVE the chocolate that I had and Maddi would love the lemon dessert Brett got and we wished there was a way to take some home to them. The manager came back with a boxed chocolate and lemon dessert, minus the gelato, to take to the kids.

The kids were thrilled when they woke up and we told them we brought dessert for them and they could have it for breakfast! They really enjoyed it.

It was a fun date night for Brett and I and the kids had a blast with the sitter. We are always so busy with activities that it's hard to get out too often, but we enjoy it when we do. There are some other great restaurants that are customers of Brett's we will try soon. The whole experience was so nice and not stuffy at all. I just can't imagine that so many people spend that kind of money on food on a regular basis.
